Born on October 8th, 1991 in the small village of Canning, NS, 20 year old Laura Roy sparked an interest in music and performance at the age of five. She started to make her way on to the music scene at age 13, after showcasing her singing talents at local community contests and shows. At age 14, Laura picked up a guitar and began to compose her own music and lyrics. Not long after learning guitar Laura wrote her first song titled “Free”. Melding some of her favorite genres of music: r&b, folk, pop and country, Laura produces a unique sound with all of her original songs and sets herself apart from other musicians with her clear, powerhouse vocals.
Over the last five years her musical abilities have grown immensely. Laura continues to write song lyrics and performs wherever she can, and now she is convinced that music will continue to be her lifelong passion. Her captivating stage presence, songwriting abilities beyond her years and incredible voice has made other artists described her as someone to watch.
Now, Laura is attending the Nova Scotia Community College, enrolled in the esteemed Music Arts program and travelling across the province doing what she loves: playing her music. After returning from a six-week trip to Ghana, West Africa this past summer, her musical versatility shines after collaborating with Ghanaian rapper Guru. Coming out with two hip-hop/r&b tracks that helped to make up the release of her second EP. She shows her fans a different side to her music and what she is really capable of.
